The Three Pillar

Pillar One: We believe this business is a gift from God and we are called to be good stewards of this crazy gift, whether it be through volunteering, financial contributions, or both.

Pillar Two: We provide our customers a product and workmanship that is second to none, whether it is foundations, flatwork, masonry, or grading. We take pride in all aspects of the company, whether it is our employees or community involvement.

Pillar Three: We promote safety first, last, and always through continuing education and job site inspections. Most workplace injuries are avoidable, and the health and safety of our employees are of the utmost concern.

History

Joe Melia, President

Joseph Melia was born in Chatsworth, CA in 1965. He graduated from Westlake High School in 1983 and shortly after started his own detailing business while working at J.A. Concrete. While working at J.A. Concrete, he was learning the dynamics of the concrete subcontracting business.

After many years working for other concrete contractors, Joe joined a brand-new concrete contracting business in 1987. During the humble beginnings, they worked on small projects with the help of just two employees.

In 1990, they obtained a “C-8” Contractor’s License, and Joe became a full partner in the company, and the exclusive manager of its field operations; in addition to his public relations, estimating, and managerial roles. As the company’s reputation began to grow, so did their business. By this time, the company had added 28 employees and growing to help them. During this time, the primary work was small concrete driveways and commercial concrete flatwork.

Just two years later, the company added a “B” Contractor’s License to include structural masonry and masonry veener work to the list of what they had to offer. Joe re-vamped and streamlined field operations and maintained job schedules, ultimately growing the delivery of jobs from 1 to 2 a day, to 4 to 7 a day. The company then expanded into new territory, adding custom concrete foundations and residential tract concrete foundations to their scope of work, along with 60 employees.

The new millennium brought the boom in the housing market, and Joe’s work force grew to over 380 employees. At this time, they worked on up to 80+ projects in any given month doing the many scopes of work that they were known for, such as concrete foundations, concrete flatwork, masonry hardscape, masonry walls, and structural masonry work.

Joe is always looking to grow and learn, and in recent years has added polishing, staining, and overlays to his list of skills, known as the PSO Department for short. The department was formed to fulfill a new kind of demand that customers were wanting. Joe noticed that is was more repair work, instead of brand-new work in the post-boom housing market.

Joe has went back to his beginnings, where it all started for him, and will continue to carry and grow his company in Memory of his brother, Chuck Melia Jr. Joe Melia currently has 50 employees working on custom homes, commercial projects, and residential tract homes.

Joe is happily married to his wife Jody and together they have three sons, Nick, Joey, and Brandon.
